Damn Small Linux
For the first time I tried Damn Small Linux some minutes ago, a very small live distro which includes Monkey as main webserver, the distro looks very nice!, it uses the JWM windows manager and includes Dillo as web browser, did you know that Dillo author is from Chile ? nice!
When I started the system under Qemu comes to my mind the old times when using Linux… a very basic graphic environment but very powerful!!!
The bad news is that seems that DSL project is not active, i’m wondering if are they considering to include a 2.6 linux kernel, otherwise i will have to port Monkey 0.10.x to work on 2.4 kernel (no big deal)..

hola,
saludos,
Hello Eduardo,
I’m working with your Monkey Web Server (0.9.2) under DSL (4.4.6) for a while – and it works great for me! I’m maintaining some web pages for friends and this server is very well suited for development and testing – although it is running on a very old hardware: AMD-K6, 450MHz, 192MB RAM and 8GB harddrive.
You are right in supposing, that DSL is not developed anymore. The last release 4.4.10 is dated from November 2008. Obviously this is due to a conflict between the two main developers John Andrews and Robert Shingledecker. As a consequence, the latter has launched a new project called ‘Tiny Core Linux’, see http://www.tinycorelinux.com/welcome.html.
It seems to be very similar to DSL, but it uses kernel 2.6.x and is only 10MB (compared to 50MB for DSL) big. As far as I can see, this small size is achieved, because several add-ons as in DSL are not part of this distribution – they must be added separately.
Unfortunately your Monkey Web Server isn’t a direct part of it.
Your extensions to version 0.10.x look very interesting. Maybe I find the time to set up a Tiny Core Linux to use it – or your will find the time to make version 0.10.x running with kernel 2.4.x
Again: great work!
with best regards from Germany
Thomas
